hardcover
Great Women Chefs Cookbook. lst edition, published by Turner Publishing, copyright 1996, by Julie Stillman, and is according to one website, now out of print! A GORGEOUS hardcover book featuring the best of the best women chefs, thirty chefs in all. It has vivid color illustrations of fabulous looking meals. A great quality item and is considered vintage now that it is 30 years old! This would also make a great hostess gift. Or, just do like I do, display it in your kitchen, on your hutch or baker's rack, and when you feel the ache to bake take a look in one of your great cookbooks!
hardcover
Antique book titled Indians Today. c.1926. By Flora Seymour, published by Benj. H. Sanborn & Co. No other copyright date in this book so I assume it's a lst edition. Apparently this was the property of the South Intermediate School. The book has a stamp that says it is no longer the property of S. Intermediate Library. The author was a member of the Board of Indian Commissioners. This book is chock full of condescending language regarding Native Americans, and stereotypes. However, it does has some nice pictures of various Native Americans, e.g., George Gist, Dr. Charles A. Eastman, Chief Joseph, etc. Some are reprints from the Smithsonian, and some are original photos taken by the author's husband George Seymour. The hardcover edges are slightly tattered, and there is one page that has some tape on it, and another that has a corner torn off and that's about it; the rest of the book is fine.
salt glaze
German salt glazed stein. Great gift for someone! This is a fabulous salt-glazed stein depicting three men, a woman, and a dog. Two of the men are seated, the woman appears to be a serving maid. It is very detailed, including the handle. The lid has the initials: DGBM, and drm in a triangle. On the bottom of the stein is a blue ink circle stamp that says: Original Gerz. There is also a paper label on the bottom with the numbers #10051348 on it. It is 9.5 tall and is in good condition. This would make a perfect gift for a manly man :). Father's Day, Birthday, Anniversary, or just to display on your wetbar! go6/10?
Nice vintage Shawnee Pottery bamboo style vase. No chips or cracks, measures 4 wide x 7 high, and is pictured in the Shawnee book. It has an incised under-glaze USA mark on the bottom and a dry rim. Perfect vase for tulips, see pic #5! Guaranteed authentic vintage Shawnee, as are all my items. brncs
Vintage McCoy planter vase. Marked with 'MCP #612 USA' on bottom. c: 1967-74. It is shown on p. 185 of one of the McCoy books. Good vintage condition, no chips or cracks, just some small glaze pops, and it was made between 1967-1974 when McCoy & Mt. Clemons Pottery were one and the same. It measures 4.75 wide x 4 high.
Very nice vintage artist signed art pottery vase. c:1947. Signed Hermetz and dated 2-26-47 incised on its glazed bottom; good condition, no chips or cracks. It is very heavy for its size and has some very faint crazing which you only see on the ivory portion if you are looking very close, but other than that, it is perfect for being 66 years old! I am not familiar with this artist, but whomever he/she was, they were very talented. A great vase for a Southwest or Mission style room. Any white spots that appear in the pics is glare from the camera flash and overhead light, (I took these at night). It is almost 4 inches tall x 4.5 wide.
Vintage pedestal vase. Nice retro, heavy matte white pedestal vase that has the remnants of a paper label on the bottom, but is otherwise unmarked. I just saw an identical one like this while out at an antique store closing, and it was marked: Cal Origs, (California Originals), so that may be the maker of this vase. It is heavy, well-made, and has no chips or cracks and measures 5 wide at top rim by 5.25 high. This style was popular in the 1950's.
humidor
Vintage Everfresh humidor. A very manly looking glass humidor with an very nice wood lid. It features a hunting scent with a pheasant. On the inside of the lid there is a slot for a glass vial to hold water to humidify your pipe tobacco, cigars or cigarette tobacco. A little brass clamp holds the vial in place. On the inside of this vial is a rolled paper with directions and which calls this the 'Everfresh Humidifier', Decatur Industries, Decatur, Indiana. The paper looks fairly old. The humidor measures 5 7/8 high x 6.5 wide, and is in very good condition. The only thing missing from this item is the little glass cap that fits onto the glass vial, it is missing, but if you actually wanted to put water in here you could put a tight fitting cork in it. I really do not think this detracts at all since this is on the inside of the lid and most people just display these things. It would make a wonderful gift the your favorite guy! Age est: 1950's-60's.
Vintage USA ashtray. This is a great looking vintage ashtray with an underglaze USA mark on the back. It is a nice green color, (not olive!, with a paisley/amoeba like pattern. It measures 10 long x 6 wide and has no chips or cracks. McCoy, Shawnee or Red Wing?; they all made ashtrays but I don't have time to check.
tin
Antique toleware tin. This tin features a fruit motif, pear, apple, lemon, etc. Very darkened from age. It measures 6 wide x 1.5 high. The paint is alligatored; a lot of wear on the paint, but no dents in the metal.
Vintage oriental box. OUTSTANDING! Gorgeous, VERY HEAVY, likely bronze box with an incised floral motif, and a lined wood interior. It has an incised 'Made in China' mark on the bottom. It had a label on the bottom when I bought it that said: circa 1910, but it is now missing. I do believe it does date to that age based on the weight of this box and the wood interior, which you do not find on the newer imported brass items from China. A gorgeous box to use or display. This is likely an antique tobacco humidor; a similar one is shown in the book on Tobacianna. This would make a great gift for someone who collects old boxes; or just to use a furniture accessory item! 6.25 long x almost 3 inches tall x 4.25 deep
tobacco box
Vintage enameled brass tobacco? box. Great unique gift! It has black enameling and a wood lining. Very heavy for its size. This is likely an old tobacco/cigarette/snuff box - I base that on the wood lining inside. It has brass hinges and measures 4.75 x 3.25 x 2 high. It also has a small inlaid design on the interior of the lid and box, but I do not know what these symbols mean. The little lever on the front of the box turns so that the latch stays closed. It is a very lovely decorative display item for your office, library, or bookcase, especially if you love quality brass pieces. This would make a great gift for the person who loves beautiful unique items, or the vintage box collector! Age est: early 20th C.
Vintage mesh strainer. Beautiful old strainer with a turned Maple handle and red paint on the end. It looks like birds' eye maple to me, lovely patina on it. The strainer portion appears to be tin.
Vintage Progressus stainless steel eggbeater. Neat eggbeater that has a black side handle with white trim and the blades are marked: Progressus Stainless Steel, Japan. 10 inches long. I think Progresses was a German company with factories in Japan pre 1950's. Blades rotate fine; minimal wear on handle. Eggbeaters are so much easier than the heavy Cuisinart! sld:ts3/09
Vintage triple planter vase. RRP Roseville Pottery? Very cute planter/vase with gold trim. It measures 8.5 long x 2.5 high w/no chips or cracks. Heavy, but unmarked. I believe it is an RRP Roseville, (there are some taller vases with the same colors/pattern shown in the book). This planter has a dry bottom rim, and is quite well made. I think it may be Camark or Cameron Clay Products, but could be another American company. White dry clay bottom rim. You can purchase this one by itself or cheaper in the group trio, see photo 4.
jewelry
Vintage sailboat metal trinket box. Very lovely and detailed silver finish trinket box that is likely silver plate or nickel silver, but has no hallmark on it. Most of the old boxes like this were made of nickel silver, or what is commonly called: pot metal. It has a red velvet interior. It measures 3 wide x 1.5 high. This would be a great place for your man to store his Rolex watch!.
Vintage rooster shakers. Cute little ceramic salt and pepper shakers with the JAPAN ink mark on their bottoms. They are in good vintage condition, just a tad of paint is missing. They measure about 3.5 high x 2.5 long. These are the old ones, they have cork stoppers not plastic, so likely made pre-WW2. Great colorful display items that don't take up much space!
Vintage salt box. Very cute ceramic salt box that is set in a wood frame. The ceramic box itself is quite heavy and thick and has the number #1431 on the bottom in black ink under the glaze. A great display item to add to your vintage saltbox or woodenware collection. The wood just needs some beeswax to preserve it, it is a little dry. The porcelain box is in good condition, no chips or cracks. It also has two eyelets for hanging if you choose.
Signed art pottery vase. Very unique art pottery. It is a heavy, exceptionally well made matte aqua vase or ashtray that looks like Arts & Crafts/Studio pottery to me. It also bears an incised number and name on the bottom dry rims, however, I could not make out the name, so I put a water-based paint wash just over the incised mark to see if I could make out the name. It looks like there is a G-i-or l, then another letter, then an x, and then I can't make it out. The number looks like 4001 or 4004. (the paint has been removed). This item is in good condition, (the pics show some dirt but I have since cleaned this off); all-over very faint crazing that you can only see upon very close inspection. Again, the pics on this one just do not capture how really well-made this item is. It measures 6 long, 3 wide x 4 tall. Age est: 1920's.
